Ohio Issues “Stay at Home Order” Closing All Non-Essential Business – A.L. Schmidt CPA is Designated as an Essential Business and Will Continue to Operate
March 23, 2020
On Sunday, March 22, 2020, Dr. Amy Action, Director of the Ohio Department of Health issued a “Stay at Home Order” effective 11:59 p.m. on March 23, 2020, until 11:59 p.m. on April 6, 2020. The order requires the closure of all non-essential businesses and requires individuals to stay in their homes, except when traveling for essential purposes such as seeking medical treatment or buying necessary groceries and supplies. The Order identifies Essential Businesses, which are permitted to remain open so long as certain COVID-19 risk mitigation rules are followed.
A.L. Schmidt CPA has been designated as an essential business. We will continue to conduct business while maintaining our top priority of protecting and promoting the health and safety of our employees, their families, as well as the interests of our clients.
We are aware of our clients' need for our support during this time of year when taxes are due. We enacted a Readiness Plan months ago to help ensure we continue to provide our clients with uninterrupted service and the ability to continue to process tax returns. This includes the ability for all staff members to work remotely, conduct client meetings by video conference, exchange important documents through our secure client portal or through the mail slot in our office door.
Know that voicemails are being heard, emails are being checked and we continue to hold appointments through video conferencing.
Fortunately, the IRS has delayed the date 2019 taxes are due until July 15, 2020. The state of Ohio has followed and municipalities have as well. To find out the dates for specific states, view this page. We continue to process returns for clients who have submitted their information to us and will continue.
